Operating a Vehicle

Drivers ed Initiative Award – Summer 2019

I would first like to start off my essay by introducing myself, My name
is Azade Brown and I am an upcoming senior at Step of Faith Christian
Academy. I plan on attending a four year college/university where I
can pursue my dreams of becoming an elementary educator. I am looking
forward to being able to study a major I have had a passion for since
I was a child. Attending college and receiving scholarships will
provide me the opportunity to grow and learn in many ways.

I believe that driving education is important because safety is one of
the most essential factors that one should look at when operating a
vehicle. Safe driving is something to be taken seriously and not only
saves lives but, provide other benefits that can save money. When it
comes to operating a vehicle, one could either be a good driver or
someone who does not know how to operate a vehicle. There are many
laws created to ensure a safe and pleasurable driving experience.
Some are avoiding aggressive behavior, alertness, and vehicle
following distance, speed, and special driving situations.

Many factors contribute to the degree of risk when you are operating a
vehicle. Some of the obvious would be bad weather and poor roadways.
However, you can reduce the number of deaths related to driving by
using your indicator lights more frequently, drive the speed limit,
be more observant, wear your seatbelt although it might be
uncomfortable, avoid any type of drugs that would cause you to be
mentally unstable, and never use your mobile phone it is a
distraction and a 400% chance that you can cause a collision.

I have had a driving accident experience coming back from a family
vacation at Myrtle Beach, SC. My family did not act in a
irresponsible manner but the person who hit us did. He was a drunk
driver. The guy hit us causing the front of my family’s van to be
torn off in the front but it was repairable. The drunk driver didn’t
even check on my family and I to see if we were alright or apologize
for what he had caused. My mom suffered with leg pain and my
grandmother suffered from extreme breast pain.

Steps that I can take to become a more efficient and safe driver is to stay
off my phone, not blasting my music so loud, drive the speed limit,
and look around before moving. I can help others by talking to them
about safer driving and complying to the rules.

In conclusion, please take operating a vehicle seriously because you are
not the only one on the highways. I hope that my essay helped someone
out and that I that you all will consider me for your scholarship.
