Change A Life

Have you ever participated in a driver’s ed course? Whether you have personally participated in the course or not, the class has a reverberating impact on the safety and lives of today’s drivers. Through the help of in-class instructions, practice road tests and emphasis on safety habits, Drivers’ Education continues to save millions of lives every year.

As of 2018, there were on average, thirty-eight thousand deaths in the United States alone, according to NSC.org. In regards to being at risk, young adults are most likely to be in a fatal car crash or accident. Most of the attendees of the drivers’ education course happen to be young adults, with ages typically ranging from 14-21. Driver’s Education classes highlight the dangers and responsibilities that come with the newfound independence driving grants. In a typical driver’s education course, students observe the do’s and dont’s of the road, along with safety tips, that parents and other elders might not have given. For example, the classic “ten and two” rule on the steering wheel, known by most adults born before the year 2000, has now been altered to “three and nine”. That hand placement happens to position the hand at a nice medium between too high and too low. Ultimately, in-class instruction allows incoming drivers to have an advantage before getting behind the wheel.

Another way that driver’s education saves lives is through practice road tests and test drives in various vehicles. Throughout the course, students have the opportunity to gain experience on the road while being with an attentive, educated professional that also has brakes on the passenger seat further implementing safety precautions.

Unfortunately, inexperienced drivers don’t have the best examples of how to be safe, road safety has been negatively impacted by the invention of the cell phone and various technological advancements. Each day in the United States, eight people perish in car accidents that involve a distracted driver. However, with the knowledge and practice granted from a Driver’s Education course, students see and persist through the challenges and dangers that distracted driving permits. This process further allows students to make appropriate decisions based on their findings in class and their experiences on the road. Furthermore, driver’s education improves student’s awareness of the dangers of distracted driving and informs them on its prevention.

In Conclusion, driver education saves lives through the constant emphasis on the safety, and dangers that come with driving, while keeping incoming drivers safe.
