Driving
is a privilege, but this privilege has the potential to cost people
their lives. If the steps to prepare for driving aren’t taken
correctly, then the rate of a potential accident goes up
tremendously. AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety did a study that
showed 20 percent of all accidents annually are caused by people who
do not have a valid drivers license. That’s 8,400 deaths per year
in the U.S. just because people didn’t take the time to go through
much-needed drivers ed. By following traffic laws and safety rules
will keep drivers safe, along with drivers around him or her. The
knowledge of any driving hazards on the road and the ability to
adjust to them is imperative for driving safety. Above all else, be a
defensive driver. First mention in any driver course taken, being a
defensive driver will safe you money, time and most importantly
lives. Something that hasn’t been mentioned is driving under the
influence. The odds of being in a drunk driving accident whether
under the influence or not is 2 out of 3. In fact, from 2006 to 2016,
there were a total of 10,000 deaths in the U.S. related to drunk
driving accidents. From witnessing family members who struggle with
alcohol consumption and decide to drive while under the influence, I
can say that driving under the influence neer goes well. The risk of
an accident while driving under the influence rises significantly,
unlike the peoples chance to survive around a drunk driver.
Protecting your life and the lives around you by following traffic
laws, fastening your seatbelt, lowering distractions, being a
defensive driver, and not driving under the influence should ensure
others safety as well as yours.
