Driver’s education is an incredibly important tool for those
wanting to learn how to drive safely, which I’m pretty sure is
everyone. But, the problem isn’t that people don’t know how to
drive, rather the problem is that driver’s too often dismiss there
better judgement and drive recklessly. According to tellrobert.com,
“reckless driving causes 33% of all deaths involving major
accidents which are more than 13,000 each year” and “40% of all
car accident deaths are attributed to driving under the influence”.
So if we are to reduce the number of deaths caused by vehicle
accidents then the first step we need to do is increase the penalties
of reckless/ drunk driving. People will be less likely to reckless
drive if the punishment was steeper than just twelve months. Next
step would be to remind driver’s more often of the implications of
reckless driving. A warning for the possible punishment of reckless
driving will be more impactful too those willing to recklessly drive
than just instruction. One step you can take to make yourself a safer
driver is avoid alcohol in situations where you might drive. Even if
someone else says that they’ll cover for you and drive tonight, you
never know if they might be pressured into driving. By doing this it
also helps you protect your friends as well. If they get stuck in a
situation where they have to get home after drinking, now you can
offer to drive them yourself. I realize that not drinking at a party
isn’t as easy as it sounds, but just remember that even if you’re
a confident driver accidents can and will happen because being drunk
will make them happen.
