My Impact on the Community

I first started getting involved in the community through church. The
previous church I attended had a coin offering where the young
children would collect change from the congregation which was used to
help with different community services. My class would decide which
organization to help and one of the services we donated to was the
tornado victims in Joplin, Missouri. We used the money to buy
supplies to help out those who lost their homes.

After I started attending the church I do presently, I was not as involved
so I joined Key Club at school, which is a club focused on community
service. As a member, my responsibilities are too volunteer whenever
there is an upcoming event and to be in charge of certain events. I
volunteer about an hour a week per each month of the school year. I
chose to volunteer through Key Club because all of its members are so
friendly and compassionate about what they do. The head advisor of
the Key Club at my school is another reason I decided to join. She
was so welcoming and encouraged me to try it.

I will admit that one of my biggest challenges of being a volunteer is
committing to projects and making time to volunteer but the
satisfaction volunteering gives me makes it all worth it. One of the
most satisfactory elements of volunteering seeing how appreciative
and happy other people are of your help. It always puts a smile on my
face and theirs to know someone is there for them.

My choice of career is to become an elementary teacher. My choice to
become a teacher was definitely impacted because of my service
volunteering. From the time I was eleven up until presently I have
constantly volunteered to help out watching children in the nursery
at church and whenever they needed help. Because of that, I grew a
love of children They will always put a smile on my face and make me
feel better about myself.

Forward looking to me means doing everything through faith, whether it be
teaching a child to ride a bike or helping a family find a home, it
is done with love and kindness. I see my activities being based on my
faith and love of God. No matter what I may be doing; such as
dancing, volunteering or teaching; it will be for my love of Jesus
Christ and will be not only to better myself, but other people.

Being a volunteer, I have learned that there is no limit to how much you
can help out your community. There is nothing too big or too small to
be done. Even if it is something small, it could put a smile on
someone’s face and then you know it is worth it. I love working in
the community. It fills my heart with joy to know that I am doing
something good for someone else instead of myself.
