The
Importance of Volunteerism

Volunteerism is very important within the youth because we represent the future.
If we show a good work ethic, motivation to help others, as well as
kindness towards others, we are setting the example for a better
future. It is also important to volunteer in any type of way because
there are people out there who are possibly too poor or unable to do
certain things themselves, which is why we must be willing.

I, personally, have volunteered in a few different areas. I started out
by going on a mission trip with my school for Catholic Heart Work
Camp. We are all split up into groups and each group is given a
project they must accomplish by the end of the week. For example, my
group helped build a wheel chair ramp for a veteran. I have also
helped out with Special Olympics, as well as a pregnancy center, and
for a boys and girls club organization.

My main volunteer work was with the boys and girls club. I volunteered
at least 6 hours per week. I started out cleaning around the place,
but then I slowly transitioned to playing with the kids and helping
them out with their homework and other things. My biggest challenge
as a volunteer was finding the time to go and sometimes having
patience with the much younger kids. But once I got used to it, it
became fun to me and helped me to be better with children.

The most satisfaction I ever got from volunteering was on the mission
trip when I helped build a wheel chair ramp for a veteran. My group
worked very well together and accomplished all our tasks on time.
When we showed the finished ramp to our veteran it was very happy for
us to see how joyful he was about the ramp. I would say the most
satisfaction just comes from making others happy out of the pureness
of your heart.

From these experiences I have learned that we should be very happy to
volunteer and give back to our community. If we are young and strong
there is no reason we should not be using those abilities to help
others gain happiness.
