Name: Haleigh Conklin
From: Pasadena, TX
School: Pasadena High
I volunteer at many different places, such as: elementary schools, a
thrift shop, the animal shelter, and school events. I try to
volunteer at least once a month, and I have about 150 hours in total.
I am responsible for making sure people are safe, having things to
stay organized, keeping a clean environment, being punctual, keeping
people entertained, setting up and putting away, and so much more. My
biggest challenge as a volunteer is knowing when to ask for help. I
learn new things, and sometimes I don’t know what to do. I think,
“Since I’m not getting paid, is it okay if it’s not perfect?”
However, the pay doesn’t matter. It still should be quality work.
Volunteering makes me feel good as a person because I did things to
help my community. I love when people are so grateful for my help, it
makes me feel special and wanted. I have learned that I am able to
get out of my comfort zone to do different things, and it helps me
learn what I like and don’t like.
When I grow up, I want to become a teacher. Volunteering gives me the opportunity to
work with kids. I am able to have fun with them and watch them grow
