Drivers
Be Aware

Drivers ed is
important for everyone before getting out on the road. The more you
know about driving the more you are able to become a safe driver.
Driving is a serious task and it’s just not about the gas and brake
pedal or the steering wheel, there is a lot more to it. Driving
education provides the inexperience driver with the knowledge,
skills, and attitudes needed for the safety of everyone on the road.

I
believe all drivers should be required to take behind the wheel
driving. Having someone who is experienced with driving as well as
the rules of the road can better prepare a new driver. I also
believe that basic car maintenance; such as checking the oil, tire
maintenance, and checking important fluids, should be required and
included in driver training. Knowing how to care and maintain your
car can also reduce accidents by keeping your car safe for use on the
road. When my dad was younger, he didn’t realize the dangers of
having bald tires on his car. When he drove on a winding road after
a recent rain, caused him to spin out of control because the tires
didn’t have enough traction. He crashed into a tree and a branch
went straight through the window where he was sitting. If the impact
didn’t throw my dad to the side, he would have died in that
accident.

Another
thing that helped me when I was practice driving, my mom would talk
about different situations that were happening around us. She taught
me the importance of being aware of all your surroundings; you need
to look for people, animals, or kids playing as you’re driving
through neighborhoods. Most importantly, pay attention to other
drivers and their actions; my mother would point drivers who were
speeding and driving recklessly and would tell me to distance myself
from that dangerous situation to prevent being involved in an
accident.

I
believe that road rage incidents are a huge factor in the amount of
unnecessary deaths on the road. Being patient and leaving on time
can help reduce the stress as well as the number of road rage
incidents. People who are running late tend to speed and make
reckless decisions and become angry. Being patient and giving
yourself the right amount of time to get to your destination allows
you to have better judgement and decision making as well as less
anxiety and stress when you are driving. Lastly having consideration
for the people around you is another way to reducing the number of
road rage deaths on the road. Not everyone drives the same and
having patience for a new driver or even an elderly driver or drivers
who choose to follow the rules differently than you will contribute
to a safer driving environment.

These
are key factors at becoming a better person as well as a better
driver on the road.
