Driving
is something that most people learn to do to easily get them from
place to place on a daily basis. Driving can be very scary and
intimidating when it is your first time behind the wheel. It is
important to know the rules of the road so you don’t end up as a
headline on the news or in the newspaper. While beginners are
learning to drive, it needs to be stressed that not being distracted
and paying attention to the road at all times is very important. You
may know what you are doing, but you don’t know the next move of
those that are in front of, beside or behind you and their next move
can turn into a life or death situation in an instant. Student
drivers need to be educated to know the rules of the road, but also
the reality in that you can’t trust everyone and paying attention
is essential. To decrease the number of deaths while driving, drivers
need to know that even though you are experienced you still need to
pay attention and follow the laws of driving. The reason deaths while
driving are so high is because people aren’t paying full attention
to the road. According to Iginjuryfirm.com, the most common
distractions on the road are phones, music, talking to friends and
family, etc. Not to say that you can’t enjoy your time driving
while listening to music or talking to loved ones but the road needs
to have the majority of your attention, not music or relatives. My
friends and I are safe drivers and follow the rules of driving. We
have a couple slip ups from time to time (i.e rolling stops, a few
miles over the speed limit etc.) but we make sure we are following
the rules of the road. Thankfully, we have never been in a car
accident and we don’t do outrageous things that would put us at
risk of getting hurt. During my beginning stages of driving, I was
practicing one day with my mom during the summer and it came time to
park. While I was parking, I turned a little too much into the
parking spot and dented the car that was parked next to us. I felt so
bad. Even though I wasn’t distracted and I was paying attention, I
still made a mistake and that is a part of learning something new. To
become a safer driver, make sure you practice a lot and that it is
with someone who is experienced in driving. Make sure you aren’t
distracted and you put your phone somewhere you can’t see it so you
won’t be tempted to get on it while driving. Lastly, staying alert
while you are driving. You may be paying attention, but make sure you
aren’t paying attention so much that you zone out. Hopefully, we
can stay safe and enjoy driving!
