Volunteerism in My
Life

Volunteerism has been a huge stepping stone in my life. It has taught me that it’s not
always yourself that matters, and that helping others can actually
benefit you as well.

In my time of volunteering, I volunteered at a senior living center. It is probably
one of the most well maintained places in my town. The people there
are amazing, they treat the seniors very well, they care about their
jobs and helping others, etc. I was one of those people. I assisted
the employees, along with the elderly. With the employees, I took
care of some of their tasks to ease their stress and workload in
order for them to get more important tasks done, mine were things
such as cutting and organization and planning and scheduling and
things such as those. With the elderly, I assisted mainly with dining
area tasks. I handed out meals, checked up on them, reorganized their
library, had conversations with them to cheer them up, I played card
games with them to occupy their time, etc. I really enjoyed being
around so many people and being taught how to do things and how to
become a better and more selfless person. So it really was not a
waste of my time, as most people think of it as.

So, there you go. That is what I did in my volunteer work and how it has helped me
build as a person.
