We
cannot always build the future for our youth, but we can build our
youth for the future” (Franklin D. Roosevelt). A powerful quote to
live by and one I make sure to instill in my desire to volunteer more
and more as I continue to mature. Throughout High School, my greatest
accomplishment would be giving back to the youth. While this wins no
medal or trophy, I pride myself on the fact that when I am older and
pass, these youth will have learned something that can help them in
some way succeed, and hopefully give them the desire to give back as
well. That is my trophy, for youth are the future. If the youth are
not shown the opportunities that they truly have at their fingertips,
how will society benefit? My favorite volunteer moments have been
around sports and the positive effects sports can have to one’s
character/attitude. Training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and having played
basketball for many years; as a Senior, I have learned the importance
of personal accountability and responsibility through sports. These
of which are important to a child in preparing for the future. With
that being said, I will finish with what volunteering to help the
youth has taught me. That is most importantly, how to challenge
myself. By allowing myself to become comfortable and content, I am
not showing the youth in which I volunteer for how to challenge
themselves and work hard to grab those stars! I believe that not only
does this apply to the youth but volunteering overall. So those who
are unsure how or what to volunteer for, find your passion, challenge
yourself, and most importantly share it!
