5
seconds

It
only takes 5 seconds. In that time a new baby is born. In that time
your could injure someone to the point they would probably never walk
again in their life. Or they couldn’t pursue the dreams they wanted
because you just wanted to answer that text. Or you thought you were
just tipsy. Drivers ed is so important. People don’t see
the benefit. There is. You learn new things everyday when you step in
that car. How to be safe. How to the car into reverse. So many. How
to stop your car from hydroplaning. So many.
There
has been many laws and legislations in place. To aide people to
arrive to their destination safely. In Georgia a new law was passed
about hand held devices will result in tickets and fines. Everyday
people don’t listen. If there was maybe an incentive from your
insurance companies; which many are doing at the moment, then people
would be more rallied about it. Also, phones are coming out with
sensors that know when your driving, so you have the option to block
calls.
My
father was injured in a car accident in 2018 by a person who ran the
light. He walked out with little to no injuries. My father on the
other hand was wheeled out with femur fractures, pneumothoraxes in
both lungs and was in the hospitals for months. He is still
recovering and needs more surgery. This is the aftermath of 5
seconds. The other driver didn’t pay attention for that long to
cause this much damage. Such little time, but this much damage. They
say the seatbelt saved him. Its so important to buckle up. Without
his seatbelt he could have been flown out the car so please protect
yourself.

I
can educate. I can show people the reality of not paying attention.
Advocating for those who were doing what they were supposed to do
then get hit by calamity. Yes, my dad survived but there are many out
there who don’t unfortunately. Anytime I get into the car I put on
my seatbelt and make sure my siblings and parents are wearing theirs.
Making sure no one talks on the phone or texts. I don’t even have
to tell anyone in my family twice. If we help ourselves first, then
others will follow in pursuit. Only 5 seconds to cause so much
mayhem. So please keep your eyes on the road.
