Texting and driving
has been an issue for many years and the rates continue to rise. It
takes as little as looking at your cell phone for one second, and the
results can be harmful to others as it could result in death. About a
year ago, I was involved in a horrific accident. Due to the actions
of a careless driver that was texting and driving, my life was at
great risk. It is nothing short of a miracle that I survived. Since
then, I continuously seek to find solutions to reduce the number of
accidents caused by texting and driving.

I believe such a
solution includes once a month sessions in school about the dangers
of texting and driving so it can set a reminder to young adults about
how such a careless act can have such a major impact on someone
else’s life. Teachers should have students download an app that is
set as a participation grade for their class. This app will help
assist them in not having that urge to look at their phones and only
concentrate strictly on the road. To spread more awareness, something
that I believe will be even more effective is making phone companies
take action. Major phone companies such as Sprint, AT&T, Verizon,
are few examples of companies that can create a campaign to spread
awareness to others.

If society works
together to reduce the number of texting and driving cases, there
will be a great decline in accidents and deaths. It’s these simple
actions that I believe will educate and motivate individuals into
thinking twice about glancing at their phones while driving.
