Throughout the United States many citizens jump into their cars and begin driving without a second thought. Many of these citizens drive with the idea that they have experience in driving, though this a detriment to the driver. The idea of driving experience serving as justification for a relaxed type of driving can cause major problems. Due to this sense of safety from experience, this creates gaps in knowledge within the driver and ultimately that this creates a more dangerous driver out on the road. This being the case, safety procedures need to be reviewed by drivers in order for them to prevent a crash in the future. To review such safety procedures, education will have to play a large role in that regard, preventing accidents and deaths among drivers. One of the first main points of education is that it allows drivers to more conscious of their actions while on the road. This, in turn, allows drivers to keep that type of mindset consistently throughout a drive. This education can be required by drivers as a short refresher course after a certain amount of time with their license, keeping the mindset. Another point is that updates to existing rules or regulations can be shown through that refresher course, giving the driver a chance to think about their actions. Along with education, there are steps that can be taken to reduce the amount of future deaths that can exist. A step that can be taken is planning before a drive, asking questions like: Where am I going to drive? and How the people involved with the drive will be affected? For example, in a case where people are going to drink alcohol, a designated driver needs to be considered before going to go have alcohol. Another step that can be taken is that a examination of the vehicle can be done, preventing any accidents related to damages from the vehicle. For myself, I have experienced a crash before although I was not driving. This crash was seemingly the responsibility of the other driver who had hit the car. In the aftermath, I had seen some characteristics from the driver. I saw that the driver was in a heightened emotional state when the driver hit the car, possibly a factor that could have aided to the crash. This was an example of a driver not driving in the right headspace, thus further serves to demonstrate that other drivers should not drive in the wrong headspace and possibly cause an accident. Looking at personal safety, there are steps I can take to drive safer and make others drive safer around me. One such way, is that I can exercise my ability to pay attention to what is going on around me during my drive, allowing for me to be avoid danger that comes my way. In order to help others be safer on the road, I can take over driving if they are not in right headspace helping to prevent a crash.
