Accidents
caused by driving under the influence, how we can teach young adults
to avoid them
As
an individual is ready to go and drive home after a fun night out,
their friends stop them and call them an uber because they know what
could happen when someone drinks and drive. As stated by the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately thirty people die
from a vehicular collision caused by a driver who had consumed a
large amount of alcohol. The number one killer of adolescents
continues to remain at the number one spot and it doesn’t seem to
slow down. It is anticipated that teenagers are more likely to die in
a car accident than in a homicide, from cancer and suicide put all
together. I personally believe that the legal driving age should be
moved up to eighteen because teenagers would have more experience
driving instead of rushing to drive at the age of sixteen. When an
individual drinks, it disrupts their wise decisions to follow the
rules and regulations of the road. With just one drink, the
individual could not be able to function a car properly like
switching lanes, braking and operating the steering wheel. If the
individual is caught, they could be charged with “Drinking Under
the Influence” or “Drinking While Intoxicated” or DUI and DWI
for short. Individuals who drink and drive can go to jail, be given a
large fine to pay, or even lose their license.
I
personally haven’t experienced drinking and driving or been in an
accident caused by one, but last year, a known young lady and her
younger brother that my friends knew were hit by a drunk driver and
lost their lives. It was upsetting to me because the drunk driver
wasn’t affected at all. Innocent lives were lost because someone
was being selfish and couldn’t make a smart decision to stay off
the road until they were sobered up. Honestly, all of the accidents
and deaths caused by drunk drivers can honestly be prevented if
individuals realized the seriousness in drinking and driving.

I
feel that there should be education programs at schools to teach
adolecents the dangers of drinking and driving. It would be nice to
have a DWI lawyer to go and give a good lesson about the legal
actions of drinking and driving. It also would be good for parents to
educate their children on drinking and driving. When a group of
friends go out to have a drink, there should be someone who is sober
and isn't going to drink that night so they can be the one to drive
everyone home.
