It is important for future drivers to know the full extent of the driver’s manual because a motor vehicle in the wrong hands is a deadly weapon to others. One wrong maneuver, one split lapse in judgment, or one pair of wandering eyes off the road leads to consequences . . . sometimes bigger than an individual is able to handle. In making people aware of the true responsibility they have as a driver, they can be more conscientious to the impact their actions have on themselves and those around them. Whether it be legal consequences, moral ones, or a combination of both a driver should keep in mind that their life and the lives of others matter. It is important to have the fundamental education required to drive, otherwise whether the person wanted to or not they are doomed to be in an accident sooner or later due to the lack in the preparation needed to truly drive safely on any street. That’s why schools should take action to encourage their students to take drivers ed classes. That way they are more likely to gain experience before they are to take their driver’s exams and before they have a chance to be out on the road. Students should also be taught the dangers of driving, the risk that ensues every time they’re behind the wheel, how a car accident can take or change the lives of others, including their own. Once, I had heard how a student was being driven home late at night. I had no connection to this student, however, little did I realize that a few months into one school year his name would be discussed all over. An array of talk of sorrow and morning would ensue. The talk of how, “he is an amazing guy, if you meet him he’ll always say hello” turned into “he was such a great guy, and I’ll miss him.” One night no one was aware of until the next morning came around, when we were all informed that a drunk driver had crashed into that student’s car killing all three passengers instantly. Not a single survivor, a result of the selfishness and disregard of that driver to keep himself and others safe by following the law. Inebriated he took away the bright future that awaited this young man and caused heartache amongst his family and friends. Therefore I will never commit the same mistake of taking non-recommendable substances before I drive, I will not text and drive, because the lives of others are at risk and not just my own. I will also inform others to quit their irresponsible habits when it comes to their driving because they should hear it from someone before it might be too late. I know what it’s like to see someone lose something precious to them at the hand of another at the wheel, and I’ll do what is needed of me to not become another irresponsible set of hands at the wheel.
