There are many steps that can be taken in order to reduce deaths related to driving. The most important one is to not be on the phone while driving. Some people think that as long as their hands are not distracted then they are safe, that is not true. Being on the phone while driving distracts the mind and if the mind is not focused on the road, an accident could happen. Other steps are to wear a seatbelt and not speed. Wearing a seatbelt will protect a driver if they do crash and make it less likely to die. Driving according to the speed limit is very important because if a person comes up on a curve and they are going too fast, it is likely that they will crash.
It is also dangerous to drive while in distress. My friend had once received bad news and was driving quickly to get to her destination, that was a mistake. She was on a bridge and got distracted by a text causing her to swerve, fly off the bridge, and into the water. Thankfully, she did not die, but she did sustain a lot of injuries. She regretted that decision and now tries to be a safer driver to protect herself and the people around her.
To protect myself and the people around me I follow all traffic rules and act as a role model to my siblings who are now learning how to drive. I also make sure to stop at a traffic light when it turns yellow, a lot of people speed when the light turns yellow which could cause an accident. People need to be aware that being a driver is a responsibility and that the decisions they make on the road affect everyone around them.
