What is the importance of drivers ed in reducing the number deaths as a result of driving? Education in all things is important. Whether it be politics, maths, or law. Education in driving, however, has a certain kind short term significance because if a reckless driver is actively on the road, they would cause a reaction from other responsible drivers that would cause accidents, fender benders, and death. It’s not always one’s own fault for an accident happening, but how they handle their reaction to the subpar driving skills of others. An education on how to drive, and how to manage others’ lack of education, I believe, would reduce the amount of deaths we see. What steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving? To reduce the number of deaths DMVs could, simply, create a more rigorous yet realistic driving test. Driving is more than just turning on the car and driving around a parking lot then showing off one’s still of how to parallel park. Being able to learn hands on and talk through common sense steps of what to watch out for would be more beneficial. Being able to have more of a training rather than a pass/fail test would, I think, be a better long term solution when it comes to giving out driver licenses. Have you ever had an experience of being in a car accident or have seen your friends or family members driving irresponsibly? I have never personally been in an accident, thank God, but I know some friends and family that have been in some minor collisions here and there. There was one time I was with a friend and he was trying to be funny and “show off” and he started driving with his knees, hands off the wheel. Not trusting him with that, I told him to not do that. What steps can you take to be a better and safer driver as well as help others become safer on the road? Paying attention to one’s surroundings and being a defensive driver is what I think would lead to safer and more responsible driving across the board
