What
is the importance of drivers ed in reducing the number deaths
as a result of driving?

What
steps can be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to
driving?

Have
you ever had an experience of being in car accident or have seen
your friends or family members driving irresponsibly?

What
steps can you take to be a better and safer driver as well as help
others become safer on the road?

When
driving a vehicle, it is the responsibility of the person to use such
a privilege wisely, or waste the opportunity through reckless
behavior. In my eleventh grade year of high school, I took a driver’s
education class through the Brentwood Driver Training system and it
really opened my eyes up to how driving is not always as effortless
as it may seem. I realized the importance of how crucial driver’s
education was to anyone whether you had driving experience or not. In
discussing the reduction of the number of deaths as a result of
driving, drivers ed plays a prominent role by keeping those
rates low. By taking a session or variety of classes that focuses on
the rules and regulations of driving, people begin to have a
brightened perspective on how safe driving impacts the entire
attitude of the road. In the midst of these rules and guidelines,
there are included steps that are taken to create a lower number of
deaths related to driving recklessly. To provide an example,
switching lanes is one of the most common tools prone to accidents.
To avoid accidents or deaths from happening in a situation that
involves changing lanes, always make sure you examine your rearview
mirrors and glance behind you to check your blind spot that the
mirror can’t cover. When each of those steps are taken and the path
is clear, turn on the signal in the direction of the desired lane and
merge safely.

Personally,
I have not had an experience of being in a car accident as a result
of reckless driving, but I know people who have suffered the
repercussions of such car accidents. At one point, my friend had been
run into by a car whose driver was unaware of their surroundings, and
because they missed those steps of checking his or her mirrors and
using his signal, both drivers suffered the consequences. Certain
steps I can take specifically as I have recently become a new driver
can include checking my mirrors constantly, but at a relaxed pace
without overdoing it. The use of my signal will be crucial when
making turns, changing lanes or taking exits because my signal is not
just for me, it is a warning method for everyone else I share the
road with. Another important step that is often overlooked is when
making a turn, being sure to look both ways in case of an unseen car
or pedestrian, saving anyone from further damage of deaths or mild
car accidents. Safe driving compiles many tools that everyone should
learn to use whether it be through self-education or a class devoted
to driver’s training so that we can prevent the number of deaths
and crashes that result from irresponsible driving.
