Driving
Safely
Teenagers find
getting their license as a right of passage into adulthood. The big
step to freedom. What happens when that freedom restricts your life
forever because an accident left you paralyzed? In America, thousands
of people die every year because of driving, and most people don’t
even think twice about getting into their car and driving.
The thoroughness in
drivers ed can help reduce the deaths due to distracted
driving. Driving with the instructor forces you to focus while
driving, because the instructor is ensuring you are not distracted
and are driving safely. Practicing this type of driving helps create
a habit for driving focused.
I believe driving
with the instructor for more hours throughout driving school could
help reduce the deaths caused by distracted driving. The more people
practice driving focused, the more of a habit it can become.
I personally have
not had any experience with accidence due to distracted driving,
however my close friend had his brother and father in a severe
accident due to distracted driving. The driver was fighting with the
passenger and it ended with life changing injuries, and two deaths.
I believe the
biggest step to changing the statistics is practicing safe and
focused driving until it becomes a habit. Put your phone in the
backseat, eat before you leave, and just pay attention to the road,
because one second of being distracted can cause a life time of
recovering.
