Driving
is an essential transportation component in our world. At the age of
sixteen, people all over the United States are immediately eager to
get their license. However, more people in this world drive more
offensively than defensively, which is taking toll on thousands of
American lives every day. This has become a daunting epidemic that
needs more attention.

Driver
education is essential to learning how to drive. It provides people
with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for driving safely,
as well as thoroughly addressing each state’s traffic laws. Drivers
education specifically covers every way to safely operate a vehicle;
such as learning how to drive in the rain or maneuver around an
accident. Some institutions have drivers wear drunk googles to
exemplify how dangerous drunk driving is. All in all, it establishes
the education to reduce the number of car accidents and traffic
violations which ultimately decreases fatality rates.

To
reduce the number of deaths, people must obey traffic laws such as
driving the speed limit, yielding correctly, merging with caution,
and driving slowly in work zones. Drivers should drive wisely, such
as periodically checking their mirrors, using their blinkers,
checking their blind spot, and always keeping their hands on the
wheel and eyes on the road. If drivers feel unwell or are not rested,
they should not be driving to keep themselves and other drivers safe.
Moreover, drivers should steer clear of alcohol and drug use while
driving.

I
have fortunately never been involved in a serious car accident
before. My mom was rear-ended at a stop light once, but it was very
minor. Additionally, one time my dad was super mad about a situation
and was not driving with caution. I insisted he pull over and cool
off before continuing to drive. Furthermore, my friend was on her
phone once while driving and a car suddenly stopped in front of her
and I had to yell to get her attention to stop immediately.

To
become a better and safer driver, people must pay attention to their
surroundings and keep their eyes on the road at all times!
Multitasking creates distraction and removes focus on what is
happening around you. People must manage travel time efficiently to
reduce speeding when getting places. The speed limit is there for a
reason, it is okay to let others pass by. Road rage can cause
unnecessary aggressive driving, and when it comes on pull over before
you put yourself or other drivers at risk. During inclement weather,
drive slower to avoid skidding on ice or hydroplaning and go easy on
the breaks to maintain control. Always keep a three-length car
distance between you and the driver in front of you to avoid a crash.
Lastly, wearing a seatbelt is critical to save lives.
