Drinking
and Driving Don’t Mix

As part of a college community,
many of my colleagues and I have been introduced to alcohol on
several occasions. One thing imprinted upon our minds from driver
education is to not drink and drive. Fear of crashing or even killing
someone under the influence mandates our decisions when choosing to
take an uber/lyft or to drive ourselves while under the influence.
Furthermore, drivers ed serves as a standard for every American
citizen who chooses to take it. Other influences including smoking or
doing drugs- either of which is dangerous to everyone and part of the
curriculum taught under drivers ed. Ultimately, driver
education has helped reduce the number of deaths by providing a
general education on the do’s and don’ts. However, driving under
the influence is the main cause of car accidents. So, to reduce the
number of deaths, one could spread the word on how accidents happen.
General education should be mandated to adults as well as beginner
drivers. I have been in a car accident on several occasions. Most
recently I was in one while my brother was driving- through no fault
of our own. Ironically, we were bumped by a patrol truck. He had
looked down at his computer while moving and hadn’t noticed we had
come to a complete stop in front of him. CRUNCH!
Our back bumper is forever imprinted by the trucks grille. So in
order to be a better and safer driver I should fulfill the driver’s
ed standard as much as possible and spread the word on car accidents.
Deaths due to car accidents are frequent and are unfortunately not in
the mind of the public at large. Therefore, spreading the word on the
effects of car accidents should be praramount and education on the
dangers of driving should be mandated.
