Unfortunately, I know first hand what it means to be distracted while driving. A family member of mine has gotten into multiple collisions and has driven dangerously many times. This is usually due to the need to get somewhere fast, which results in safety not being the first priority. Because of this family member, I know exactly what not to do while driving. I purposefully make sure to be a nonaggressive driver. I have also been In an accident while I was at the wheel. The accident was a result of brake failure. Although there is little that a driver can do while in the midst of a crisis like brake failure, it is important to keep the car in good shape with regular appointments and upkeep to reduce the chances of malfunction.
I encourage other divers to not look at their phone while driving. I offer to text that message for them, so that they are able to pay full attention to the conditions on the road. Whenever I sit in the driver seat, I know that I may be risking my life every time. Because of this knowledge, I take driving safety very seriously. I am always sure to be paying my full attention to my driving. Because of my own self awareness about just how important it is to be safe while driving, I hope other drivers can learn from my example of being calm and nonaggressive on the road.
