Getting behind the
wheel can be scary, and it should be. Driving is the number one cause
of death for people aged one through fourty four. There is hope
within drivers ed. The program’s that educate our youth
are more effective now than ever. The best steps to reduce deaths in
driving are, drivers ed, getting off our phones, and
notifying our youth of increasing importance to the driver to notice
the whole of their surroundings.

Driver’s
education, run from it, dread it, but it always arrives. Driver’s
education may be one of the most dull experiences I have ever been
through, but arguably one of the most important. If we just let youth
out onto the road without instruction they would not know the
importance of right of way and what to do if a stoplight is out. The
lessons learned in drivers ed are so important because they
change our lives. Really, what good are you when you are six feet
underground? These lessons have most definitely saved my skin and
others dozens if not thousands of times.

Deaths
by driving are mostly preventable and are the consequences of bad
habits. The most influential thing any one person can do is to put
the phone down. One out of four driving accidents are caused by
texting. It is estimated that cellphone use causes one point six
million deaths per year. Even holding a phone to briefly look at
texts increases your crash rate by eight hundred percent. Calling
someone increases that rate by three hundred percent.

My
father said he could not overstress the importance of awareness of
your surroundings. It is vital to check all of your mirrors regularly
and scan the entirety of the road for possible dangers. I have driven
over five thousand miles accident free and I give this tip all the
credit. Everytime you change lanes check over your shoulder. These
principles are common logic but they affect how safe you are on the
road every day you drive.

In
conclusion, take drivers ed very seriously. It is the best
thing you have to lean on in a crisis situation. Put away your phone,
it is a major cause of accidents and a liability to not just yourself
but everyone. Stay aware of your surroundings, focus on not just
what’s in front of you but all around you. Following these possible
steps to become the best driver out on the roads.
