I believe that possibly making all vehicles that travel our roads be legally governed at the maximum actual speed limits. No vehicle should be allowed to travel at speeds over 75 miles per hour at any time. Maybe the cameras that are put in many of our streets, these cities can install a regulator of some sort and reduce the speed of any vehicle going too much over speed. Since all newer vehicles already come with tracking and other support devices, this shouldn’t be too hard. Older vehicles probably wouldn’t be able to continue on the roads unless they are able to provide adequate transponders that would work efficiently with the regulators. Another possible idea is that each vehicle comes with a factory installed drivers side sobriety scanner, where it can read the drivers breath and eye movements therefore either shutting the vehicle down or alerting the authorities. If the government can impose a law requiring all diesel trucks to include a DEF tank to clean the air, a type of sobriety scanner shouldn't be that hard to accomplish. While these ideas seem extreme and out of reach, the possibilities are there. If Tesla and many other car manufacturers are coming up with self-driving, self-parking vehicles, surely they can think up something like my ideas earlier. Millions of lives are at stake and I believe these ideas would greatly reduce the amount of unfortunate deaths caused by daily accidents.
A few years ago my friend was waiting for his parents to pick him up from our house. It was getting late and they were not answering their phones after some time. My friend could see that their location remained in the same spot for hours. We finally fell asleep assuming there must be some type of mistake or error glitch on his phone. Early the next morning we were awakened by the terrible news that his parents had been in a horrible accident. His mom would still be here if it hadn't been for an irresponsible driver speeding down a busy street. His life would be so different if there were more laws set in place to protect every driver on the road. If this driver's car hadn't been able to go over the speed limit, he wouldn’t have lost control and plowed into their vehicle, killing himself and other innocent people.
As I am on the road learning to drive, I am always reminded of the importance of paying attention to my surroundings. I am reminded over and over again of different situations that can arise while driving through different circumstances. I want to become a great driver. Not just a good driver, because I need to make sure that I am always on alert and not distracted while I am behind the wheel. First I have read the DMV booklet and I am continuously lectured by my parents on the enormous responsibility that comes with driving. Not only am I responsible for myself, I am also responsible for all of those who I might come in contact with. So if a sign says 35 mph, I shouldn’t question it or think I know better than what the sign says. I know that whoever came up with the placement of these regulations have a good reason for imposing them.
