I believe that the steps taken to prevent deaths from driving, people need to be more aware of their surroundings and slow down when they drive. They have to remember there are other people trying to get to their destination aside from themselves. I feel people are a bit selfish and think they are the only ones on the road. They also need to be aware of people on the sidewalks and bus stops. Please do not drink and drive or use your cellphone while driving, use your bluetooth option if you have to.
It was a beautiful sunny day in Tucson Arizona, me and my friends wanted to go out and do stuff for fun. We took an uber out and had no problems, we went around and ate some food. It was time for us to go home and we ordered an Uber to go home. I was sitting in the front seat and Matthew was sitting in the back seat behind me. We were chatting and we were at a stop light, having fun with the uber driver. The Uber driver was following the rules but the truck behind us was not following the rules and hit us from behind, which caused another accident in front of us. It caused whiplash and we had to stay and wait for authorities to come and get our information. The truck driver should have not been going forward since it was a red light. Uber contacted us the following day to apologize for the accident and mention that it was the truck driver behind us that was at fault. Because of our honesty, we were not compensated for the car accident.
I also had a situation with a friend of mine named Roberto A. was here visiting Milwaukee and decided to go to Kopps. While one of my friends wanted to give Roberto, who is from New York, the Milwaukee experience. After going to several diners, it was time for them to go back to the Hotel where Roberto is staying. Unfortunately my friend and Roberto were in a major car accident where the car flipped over. There were no major injuries, but I am sure he is scared for life because of the incident. Afterwards, he had to go to the hospital, but he did not have any insurance, so we had to cover the costs. But afterwards he admitted he did not like Milwaukee. It was unfortunately time that he had to go back to New York, because of the accident he wasn’t able to have as good a time in Milwaukee for the remaining time there.
My stepfather is a driver who does not have a license. He also has driven drunk multiple times. Had a series of accidents who had crashed into church buildings. Fortunately the churches did not have any service going on and no one was injured. I think there needs to be a tougher law on drivers without license, instead of just citations there should be jail time included. Especially when the driver is known for drinking alcohol. I’ve never been in the car with because I am afraid to. I love him like a father, but I know he has two bad habits or alcoholism and driving without a license.
Even though I don’t drive anymore, because I have been blind for 6 years. I believe to be a safe driver you need to be observant of your surroundings. Always watch out for crazy fast driving, be a safe driver, keep your seatbelts on. Basically stay focused and not pay attention to your phone. Try your best to not be distracted, I know in today's world there are TVs in the cars. I try my best to not distract the driver, because I know he needs to stay focused. We do chat, but I don’t distract them from the task.
