Driver Education: A Critical Tool for Reducing Road Fatalities and Promoting Safe Driving

There are many steps that can be taken to reduce deaths even further, related to accidents. The continued teaching of driver education can drastically help reduce the risks of death while driving through the learning of essential safety tips and incredibly important traffic laws. Many deaths have also been prevented because of the improvements in vehicle safety. The technology put into vehicles to keep people safe has drastically improved over the years and has been, in many cases, the difference between life and death. The continued improvement of safety devices in vehicles can still significantly reduce the casualty rate of driving accidents. However, I do not believe that these devices will be or should be the only thing that is used to save someone’s life but rather be an extra security net for if the accident is to occur, it is better to be extra prepared than to be underprepared. I believe education is far more important as it can help reduce the chances of an accident, to begin with. The reduction of the number of car accidents, in general, will also help even further reduce the number of fatal accidents that happen in the United States of America.
I have been fortunate enough to have never been in a car accident. My family and friends all drive responsibly, but I have seen what happens when someone does not drive responsibly. I have seen a car accident where, fortunately, nobody was hurt. The only car accident I have ever seen was late at night when a car tried to turn left on a red light, and another car sped through the intersection, colliding with the vehicle that was turning left. Fortunately, nobody was injured in the accident. Though nobody was hurt, this accident could have likely been prevented due to the continued teaching through driver education. Even the simple education of not turning left on a red light could have likely prevented this accident. I have had family very long ago drive irresponsibly and have been in car accidents. Though these accidents never resulted in the death or injury of anyone, they were still expensive to repair and could have been prevented.
There are many steps that I can take to make myself a better and safer driver, such as following all traffic laws even if I am the only car on the road. However, I may be the only one on the road who could change at any moment or have never really been true to begin with. Not driving in conditions that would be very unsafe for a vehicle to operate in, such as significant snowstorms or large thunderstorms, can also be an easy way to prevent accidents. The further requirement of driver education can help other people become safe on the road. It is crucial for people to also be notified of essential weather conditions that could drastically change how a vehicle handles on the road.
