Drivers ed Initiative Award-Scholarship Drivers ed Initiative Award- Driving is an important and dangerous thing that we must do on a daily basis. It takes us on highways and backroads to our work or places of relaxation. It’s important for a driver to operate the car safely so that they and others around them do not get injured. Driving is a tool that we as humans must learn how to use. Rather it is for work or recreational purposes we must always follow the rules and guidelines given to us. There are many important things when learning how to drive a vehicle. When learning how to drive the driver must know the importance of driving education. It is a way for us to go from place to place safely. Following proper driving techniques such as: going the proper speed limit, using your blinker when changing lanes, and not going significantly over or under the speed limit. Drivers ed is a way for us to know proper rules and regulations when driving. It helps us drive safer and to be more cautious if an accident were to occur near us when driving. There are consequences when we do not follow the rules given to us for our own safety as well. I have had the experience of seeing one of my classmates come to school in a wheelchair from being in a car that was driven irresponsibly. She came back with a broken hip, a fractured rib, and a bruised leg. She was in a car with a few friends going too fast down a wet road. The car swerved and hit a tree. When she was better she had to get a pin in her hip and go to therapy to help her use her leg. The effects of driving irresponsibly are vast and can lead to many health problems in the future. To help counteract this, there are steps to help drivers become better and safer when driving a vehicle. There are many ways to become a better and safer driver on the road. Such as: putting your phone in the cupholder of your car and having on silent so that it doesn’t distract you when driving, parking on the side of the road or going inside a restaurant to eat instead of eating in your car, parking on the side of the road and taking a short nap if you’re feeling drowsy instead of continuing to drive and run the risk of getting into an accident. These are a few steps that I think would help people become a better driver on the road. To summarize, the importance of drivers ed is crucial to help lessen the numbers of deaths on the road. The steps taken to help reduce deaths on the road, as well as my experience of having to watch my friend go through the major consequences of not following driving rules and guidelines. I also think that these few steps would help make people drive safely. Driving is an important tool to be used with caution.
