Driver
education is the single most important factor to reducing the number
of driving deaths in the United States. By teaching and reinforcing
good driving habits and strategies during this time we can ensure
that they continue to utilize them in their adult years. This way
they become safe drivers for the rest of their lives and hopefully
pass these habits to their children. Drivers ed can also help
reduce the stigmas of how it's not “cool” to drive the speed
limit, wear a seatbelt, or not use your phone. One step I believe
would be very effective in reducing driving deaths would be a one
year probation like period after one gets their license where they
still go to a drivers ed of sorts. They would meet with their
instructor twice a month to make sure they are keeping positive
habits and to answer any question they may come across. I believe
this would reduce deaths because teens are most vulnerable to
accidents in the first year or so after they get their license. This
way we make sure they maintain positive habits in that first year
thus reducing deaths. My family usually drives very responsibly most
of the time. Once in a while I may have to tell my dad to get off his
phone or put his seatbelt on but those are few and far inbetween. My
friends however are a totally different story. Speeding, texting and
driving, running stop signs, you name it we got it. Some steps I
could take to be safer on the road are not eating and driving, not
playing music really loud while I drive, and not messing with my gps
while I drive. To help others I can not show them things on my phone
while they drive, answer their phone for them while they drive,
Remind them of the speed limit and their seatbelts.
