Texting while driving is very popular among American drivers. This is not popular for the good but has only made our roads more dangerous. A multiple of car accidents leading to injuries and often even death is caused by the distraction of cellular devices. Why do we continue to feed into this danger? This needs to change to keep our roads safer. Some may say that they have an urgency on their phone. Although at times they are important calls and text there is a way safer way to handle these things. A simple solution would be to pull over in a safe place and address the call or text. Choosing to just respond while driving is not just the safe option for yourself but others in danger. Pulling over is the best thing you can do for all drivers. Taking a simple moment to pull over can save a life and helps keep the roads safe.
A simple solution that doesn't seem so simple to many drivers is to just put your phone down. Make sure to turn off your phone and put it out of sight. I can speak from a particular experience from the danger of the distraction of phones. I was in a car accident earlier this year due to being distracted by my phone. This was not worth it for me, as it put myself in danger and damaged my vehicle. Thankfully it wasn't further than just the damage to my car. To think this could all be prevented by simply putting down the distraction. Many teens and adults are caught in their phones, only adding to the danger of the roads. Due to being on their phones, they aren't able to be attentive to other drivers, traffic, road conditions and road signs. Being distracted can't be fixed and it is crucial to help keep all drivers safe.
Making and enforcing laws that prevent citizens from being on their phones is also a key concept to making sure our roads are safe. The habit of drivers being on their phone is far too popular and having something to enforce them not being distracted helps ensure our safety.
Although we can tell drivers to stay off their phones, having laws and punishments for feeding into the distraction helps increase safety on the roads.
How can we take action to ensure the roads are safer and educate the drivers. It simply comes down to the lack of education that drivers hold and the lack of care. The higher the drivers are educated the greater they realize the impacts of road safety. They need to realize how lasting their reckless driving can be. Showing drivers truly how impactful their reckless driving can be and teaching them the impacts of those actions and possible accidents is essential to helping road safety. When it comes to reckless driving, drivers are often just careless of their actions, not mindful of how they drive really does have an impact. Not being educated and not caring is not an excuse for not keeping our roads safe. Things need to change and actions need to be held to a standard. Nobody wants to drive on the roads fearful of what bad things may happen.
Why are the impacts of distracted driving lasting? While we may think I'm only going to go on my phone for a quick second. That quick second can turn into a lifetime of impacts. If an accident were to occur this can lead to lifelong inquiries or even death. This doesn't just affect the victim but the victim's family. If a distracted driver causes an accident and this leads to lasting injuries this can affect one's dreams and current occupation. Which also affects their loved ones. When death occurs this deeply affects one's loved ones. When all of these things could have been prevented by just putting your phone down. It is a simple thing that has lasting impacts.
