Most of us have heard Knowledge is power it’s also true in driver education and reducing the number of deaths because of driving incidents. I think the more people are educated the fewer deaths there will be. But driver education should start when kids are young when their sponges and absorb everything around them, when they haven’t yet completely formed their thoughts and biases of the world around them. Teaching driver education to first graders will help them form judgments of what is wrong or right in driving from a young age. It could be made into a fun game like toy cars stopping at stop signs, or life-size toy cars they can drive in with roads built with chalk or cones and they can use their arm to signal if they're turning right or left it’ll be a game but at the same time, it will teach kids of driving safety that hopefully turn them into safe driving adults. Another way to reduce the number of deaths related to driving is to stop romanticizing fast driving as being cool for example movies like Fast and Furious glorify street racing, and because street racing is being glorified, there have been many deaths related to it. I’m not saying to take it away completely racing has its time and place for example professional race drivers drive in a safe controlled environment, and they would be the perfect role models to educate kids or teens that racing is possible in a safe environment. When it comes to drinking and driving there are also many deaths from drivers to their victims, fortunately, their apps like Lyft or Uber now that have helped, but when it comes to teens they most likely don’t have the money for it, It would benefit each community of teen parents/moms to have designated shuttles where the parents can rotate weekly so when teenagers go out they can get picked up and stay safe. I have been in two car accidents in my life once when I was 14, my sister was driving we passed an intersection where our light was green, but the driver turned and hit us, it left a ringing in my ears for weeks and a swollen shin but overall, I was okay. The second accident was the one that completely changed my driving habits I was 16 and decided to go to a party with my friend I drank a lot but, in my head, I thought I was okay to drive, up until then I never really paid attention to driving safety I drove, blacked out and crashed into a brick mailbox that somehow dented in all of the passenger’s side that’s when I regained consciousness the owner of the mailbox called the police and I was arrested and charged with a DUI. I felt shame and disappointment in myself, when I started the required DUI classes I heard a few stories one of them was a man who was drunk driving and killed the person they crashed into that’s when a lot of things came into perspective that I was lucky that I didn’t end someone’s life for a careless choice. It’s been 12 years. and since then, I have always driven carefully, I never drink and drive and I carefully look over my shoulder when I’m going to turn, and I constantly scan the road for possible hazards. I haven’t got a ticket or had an accident in 12 years. The steps I can take to become a better driver are to not use my phone while I'm driving to always be aware of what’s going on around me and to give the car in front of me space in case I need to brake suddenly. One way I can help others become better drivers is to encourage them to not text while driving I was a passenger in my friend’s car who was constantly texting and driving when we didn’t notice the freeway had come to a stop and she crashed looking back I could have told her I would text for her to prevent accidents, Another way I could help others be safe on the road is to offer them a ride if they have been drinking, I can also share my past experiences to show them the possible outcomes of driving recklessly, and encourage friends and family not to speed can also be helpful I believe for adults if driving advice comes from a friend or family member the other person is more willing to listen. In conclusion, driving safety education has only benefits and can save someone’s life one day.
