Drivers ed in the Real World
Driver Education is importance in reducing the amount of deaths due to driving because when people take drivers ed courses, they are able to learn the importance of driving laws. When taking these classes, you learn how to drive properly and what driving practices can help to keep you safe. Drivers ed, in my opinion, helps so many people understand the importance of staying safe on the road and to understand the full effects of unsafe driving practices. The steps that can be taken in order to reduce the amount of deaths is to make a drivers ed course mandatory to everyone that wants to get their license. I know that a drivers ed course is only mandatory for people under the age of eighteen, but I believe that it should be mandatory to everyone applying for a driver’s license. Also, I think another good step would be to obey all traffic laws and to not be a distracted driver. Distracted driving is the cause of so many accidents, and I think that reducing these would be beneficial for the world as a whole. The last step I think would be good is if every couple years you had to redo your drivers ed course as a refresher because people get comfortable with driving. As they become more comfortable, they become less cautious, causing them to lose focus easily on the road. I was in a car accident when I was twelve years old. My mom was driving, and we were coming back from my grandparents’ house. A truck had gotten off on the wrong exit and to correct himself, had swerved over to the left four lanes. By the time my mom knew what had happened, he had slammed into us. It was an extremely scary moment in my life, and I hope that only a small amount of people have to experience this. We were lucky enough for everyone to be safe, but I could not imagine what would have happened if we were driving faster and also participating in reckless driving. I think I can become a safer driver by always using my hands free devices because using your phone in the car can become an extremely dangerous circumstance. In order to keep my friends driving safe, I think they could completely have their phones away because sometimes they start texting and have to swerve out of the way. This is extremely terrifying to me because your entire life can change in the blink of an eye just to read a text message that probably is not even that important.
