“Driver’s
Education is the Key”

To
start I would like to introduce myself, my name is Patricia Golden,
and I’m a freshman at Mount Mary University. I’m currently
majoring in fashion design with goals to increase self-love and the
idea of giving through fashion. Fashion has always been my coping
device. Where I'm from, people use selfishness as a survival tactic.
I want to break it and give it to those who need it. This scholarship
ill help me pay for college and be a step closer to my vision.

Knowing
how to drive physically and being educated on how to drive are two
different things. With drivers ed, you’ll know the
consequences of what could happen and know how to prevent tragic
accidents. You know if you’re at a stop sign about to turn right
you, you know to look both ways and check your left side twice.
According to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln research team,
studies show that drivers ed significantly reduces crashes
and traffic violations among the 150,000 new drivers studied. The
point of drivers ed is to gain knowledge, skills, and
attitudes needed for vehicle safety as both a driver and
pedestrians. The importance is drivers ed is that it
reduces the number of deaths to educate new drivers.

The
steps to reduce the number of deaths is simple. Take a driver’s
education class and watch documentaries on how car accident effects
families. It'll make you want to look out for others as well as
yourself because no one wants to lose someone. Actions like checking
social media, texting, and being under the influence, are all
life-threatening when driving. Some of my friends do such things. I
remind my friends that their life, my life, and bystanders' lives are
on the ling. I, at a time, go the extreme to hide the key if my
friends are under the influence. By taking extreme actions is not
only saving my friend’s life but any bystanders around as well.

Steps
to be a better driver is building on your driving skills. Skills such
as communication, identifying road signs, and proper safety distance
are good skills to have. Becoming more aware as a driver is the goal
of the drivers ed

Just
think, is whatever distracting you from driving more important than
your life?
