One of the biggest and most important steps to reduce deaths from car accidents is to stop texting and driving! It’s been scientifically proved by many that as soon as you look at your phone you aren’t paying nearly as much attention to the road as you should and that of course is a major no go. It’s reported that about 1 out of every 4 accidents are caused by texting and driving. Another huge step towards safer driving is to obviously never drink and drive cause no good will come by doing that and if you suspect the driver in front of you is driving under influence you should give yourself space from them in case of a possible accident.
When I was younger, about 8 years old, I was in a car accident. My family and I were driving back home from a camping trip. Sometime during the trip back there were people racing along the highway while we were going about 75mph and one of those drivers blew a tire and lost control. They swerved into us and swiped us off the road into a tree. My mother passed away on impact and my stepfather was badly injured cause the road of the car had collapsed on his head. Thankfully my little brother who was 2 at the time was safe and uninjured and so was I. Because of that experience I try to be the safest driver possible and I never text and drive or would ever consider driving under influence. Thankfully none of my family has been in any car accidents in many years but unfortunately my friend was in an accident that basically totaled his car. He wasn’t paying full attention and didn’t notice the light had turned red, but he kept driving and was hit on the driver's side from oncoming traffic.
Some personal steps I could take to be a safer driver is driver less aggressively and not focus on m y music as much. I can help friends and family out by subtly telling them they shouldn’t text and drive cause of how unsafe it is.
