Drivers
Safety and Responsibility

Before
drivers' education became a course, new drivers were more prone to
getting into motor vehicle crashes causing many young people to lose
their lives because of their lack of drivers ed. Soon after the
rise in deaths of young people behind the wheel, drivers ed
became a high school course causing a decrease in motor vehicle
crashes. Thanks to drivers' education, new drivers are less
susceptible to getting into car crashes and can drive safely and
responsibly now.
Drivers
education teaches new drivers about how to operate a vehicle, road
safety, laws, and the risk of driving. It helped provide new drivers
with the confidence and attitude needed for driving by highlighting
the causes of car crashes and ways to prevent them. These
interventions include teaching new drivers how to obey road signs,
not to drive impaired, and not be distracted. By doing so, this
helped reduce the numbers of deaths related to driving.

Although
I have witnessed many friends or family members drive recklessly, I
never have been in a car crash. Even though I only took driver's
education in my junior year of high school, the lessons I learned
have still stuck with me today. I learned that just by buckling my
seat belt, watching weather conditions, and staying alert and awake
when driving, I make the road a safer and better place.

Driver
education teaches new drivers both safety and responsibility, and
without it the road wouldn't be as safe as it is now. Driver
education is truly important.
