People need to learn to have patiences on the road, meaning not running red lights or right before the light turns red, leaving your house a couple minutes early to get to your destination on time without rushing or speeding. No one should be going over the speed limit per more than 10 miles per hour, there is a reason the speed limit is there. Also limiting the amount of people in one's car if you have just received your license you shouldn't have your car packed full of people. You should only be driving with your family for the first six months no matter what. Not driving under the influence after you have been out with friends you should always have a designated driver. Everytime my mom decides to go out with her friends, my dad or I drive her home even if she hasn't had a lot to drink. It is still a good idea. Even if you are a good safe driver you still need to worry about other drivers on the road at all times and all around.
I personally have not been in a car accident but I have seen two accidents. Neither of them were caused by someone not paying attention or driving irresponsible. My two friends had just left a school dance in the downtown area and went to turn left and another driver ran straight through a red light and hit them on the passenger side with my other friend in the passenger seat. Luckily no one was severely hurt, just very shaken up and some body marks, scars and scratches. Another example was in our school parking lot between two boys and a girl. The one boy was driving a small red truck and stopped to back into the parking spot with no blinker or signal the car behind the truck slammed on there brakes and the third car behind ran into the back of their car. It was like if one domino falls down all of the ones behind it do the same thing. I find that some people just don't want to bother anyone to ask them for a ride home after they have had many drinks and been partying for the whole evening. It's knowing that many people still drink and drive after just going out to dinner with friends and having a couple drinks for fun you can not drive yourself home. Your reaction time is much slower in fact this affects our internal clock. It takes 30 minutes to feel the effect of alcohol. Knowing how to operate your car and use the features it has to offer in case of an emergency or you need to get out of your vehicle quickly for any reason. Some steps you can take to better a better drive would be to, follow with a very safe following distance, always wear your seatbelt, check your blind spots often, be extra careful when merging, yielding, and going through large intersections, don't speed when raining in or bad weather, dont race other cars like its a race track, or encourage other road rage that is not needed, and avoid changing lanes when not absolutely needed. For example, where I live the state doesn't require drivers ed but my mom still required me to take it because my drivers ed teacher taught me skills and tips on how to be a safe driver. He taught me things my parents would have never known to teach me about. Right before my drivers test the in person driving test had changed slightly and he let me know about the changes so I was more than prepared. I believe I am a much better driver now that I have completed the drivers ed class.
