Driving is a privilege

It was necessary for me to learn how to drive because I live in the city and could not ride the school bus to school; therefore, I had to be driven to school and picked up every day or walk a little over a mile to and from school. Due to COVID, I wasn’t able to take the actual driving part of driver’s education. Taking the class did provide me with some of the book knowledge I needed to help prepare me for the written test. Had I been able to take the driving part of driver education that would have taught me some of the traffic laws I need to obey while driving. I would have learned some driver safety tips. I would have had the opportunity to learn vehicle control. Also, I would have learned how to maneuver in traffic and drive in different types of situations and weather conditions. Learning this information in drivers’ education would help to reduce some of the fatal accidents related to driving. So, my mom had to take time and teach me herself. She went and picked a manual so I could start studying for my learner’s permit. Once I passed the test and I was ready to start practicing driving she ordered magnetic signs to stick to the back and sides of the car that stated student driver. She would take me to empty parking lots and let me drive around and practice pulling into parking spaces. Driving around empty parking lots allowed me to practice some of the things I had read in the manual and was taught in class. After a while of practicing, I started to gain the knowledge I wasn’t able to learn due to being virtual because of COVID-19. Once I turned sixteen, I was ready and prepared to take my driver's exam because my mom put in the time to make sure I knew how to drive safely.
For the kids that get to take driver's education class is an opportunity to learn how to be safer drivers and help to teach others how to be safe drivers. If you put into practice the things you learn in driver's education it could help to save you and yourself. Also, if you are riding with someone and they are not following the rules of the road you can tell them what you learned from taking the drivers education class and they may become a better driver because of that. Also, by using the knowledge that you learned each and every time you drive will help you to be safe on the road and improve your driving skills also. Before leaving in the car, you can prepare the car. Make sure your seat is adjusted so you are able to see over the dashboard. You should check all your mirrors and make sure they are adjusted where you need them to be. And last but not least buckle your seat buckle before starting the car.
