Driving Isnt a Joke, Take a Class

Many people question “what is the point of drivers ed?” “What is the point of following every law when no one will notice?” In fact one use to be myself. This was until I learned the impact drivers ed had on the reduction in fatalities from driving. For example, “In 2017, 2,364 teens in the United States aged 16-19 were killed, and about 300,000 were treated in emergency departments for injuries suffered in motor vehicle crashes.” (CDC) this is due to lack of experience and lack of acknowledgement that actions have consequences, some more grave than others. Some just weren’t taught properly and need to be retaught what one may think they know but don’t. While you may think drinking and speeding isn’t a big deal it is, it can cost not just your life if you go behind the wheel but many others as well. However, those who have taken a drivers education course know more so of the consequences and reduce crash induced fatalities by 22%. To reduce driving induced fatalities one can enroll in a drivers ed course, proceed to drive with caution, follow driving laws, and remembering that not following these driving laws may have extreme consequences. Something as simple as being on your phone while driving could cost you your life. I understand that first hand, my family does nothing but text and drive. It is one of the scariest times when I am in the car because while we all know it’s not safe they proceed to engage with the phone anyways. I know that I can be a better and safer driver than them by partaking in a drivers ed program as well as following proper procedure going forward. I wouldn’t be on my phone, if I felt tempted I would put it in the back seat, and I know I can help my family members and others do the same. Not one life is more important than the rest and it can all be taken away in an instant by acting irresponsibly. Life is important to us all, drivers ed can prevent that from being taken away far to early. When you enroll you save lives, it’s bigger than having the ability to drive, but more so being able to drive safely. As well as knowing those you love, and others around you are safe too.
