The importance of
drivers ed in reducing the number of deaths as a result of
driving is phenomenal. Drivers ed reveals the devastating
truths of being a reckless driver, showing real life videos to
represent what could happen if one of the students were to be
reckless. It instills a sense of fear and a determination to never
cause harm to another human being by striking the empathetic part of
the brain, making the participants physically hurt to see it happen.
Steps to be taken to reduce the number of deaths related to driving
are to set any cellular device on mute and out of site. Cell phones
are becoming the number one culprit to deaths related to driving, for
more people are becoming reliant to the device. By avoiding the
temptation of the device allows a clearer head and sharper focus.
Another step is to be more aware of surroundings. Humans tend to get
too focused on the road ahead that they fail to notice the scenes
around them, allowing them to miss the pedestrian crossing the street
or the bicyclist on the side of them. I have had one experience of
being in an accident and it was completely my fault. I was too
distracted by my passenger than the person in front of me, resulting
in a small crash, thankfully no one was injured and no car was
damaged beyond repair. That experience taught me that my passengers
are not as important as the cars in front of me and the things around
me. It also taught me the importance of a lack of distractions. I
have become a better driver because of this experience. Steps that I
can take to be a better and safer driver is by hiding my phone away
from my sight. As soon as I see the device, I have an urge to grab it
and by keeping it out of site, it keeps it away from my mind. By
freeing myself from this distraction, I am able to keep the people
around me safer. I am able to respond quicker and sense new and
unexpected movements more efficiently. I can warn my friends and
family of the dangers of driving recklessly and allow me to become
their distraction inhibitor. If their phone rings, I will answer
instead of the person driving, taking away one distraction. I will
prevent myself from being a backseat driver and vice versa. This is
how deaths related to driving will decrease.
