Driving Safe

Drivers education courses would serve as an essential resolution to reduce the number of deaths in American society. By promoting teens and adults to attend driving schools is necessary because it will acknowledge all risks that may occur when driving or operating a motor vehicle. For example, it will demonstrate techniques that one could use when in the situation of hydroplaning. When I attended Burleson driving Academy in Burleson, Texas, I was taught to keep both hands on the steering, remove your foot from the accelerator and remain calm while slowly applying your foot to the brake. Many people, especially teens, would be scared or worried about the instances of hydroplaning. Because I attended driving school with a certified drivers education teacher, I have gained further knowledge of what to do in an emergency and I have reduced my chances of losing my life.

Another step besides promoting adults and teens to attend driving school as a resolution to reduce the number of deaths due to driving is riding a bicycle. If more Americans rode bikes to destinations that are more accessible to them, it would reduce the number of car accidents in America. Some people may see this as an unrealistic solution, but its not. The reason why this solution is not impractical is that it promotes the reduction of carbon dioxide in the air, and it also reduces the amount of time that is spent in a motor vehicle. The significance of this fact is that if humanity minimizes the amount of time spent in a vehicle, it will reduce the number of motor vehicle accidents, which would also mean a reduction in deaths due to motor vehicles.

Although I have never been in a car accident where my parents were at fault, I have had an experience where my friend was driving irresponsibly while I was in the passenger seat. My friend and I were on the way back to school from taking our lunch break, and she became very impatient with the red light while in the left turning lane. She not only ran a red light and made an illegal left turn, but she also induced the chances of us having a car accident while oncoming traffic was occurring. In order to fix the issues of humanity making wrong decisions behind the wheel, one could promote driving safely to younger students on the elementary level. I am an Intern at Bransom Elementary School in Burleson, Texas, and I speak to my students about safety in the car. Although they are too young to drive, they would have an understanding of car safety and would be able to remind their parents of what they know in regards to driving safe.

If teachers and organizations can teach students about being drug-free and eating healthy, then teachers should educate their student's car safety as well. When teaching my first graders about car safety and promoting them to be safe drivers for the future gives me comfort to know that I'm making a great change in my community. When educating others on how to be safe drivers, you are not only saving other people's lives, but you are also saving yours and your family.
