When most children think of driving a car, they
think of an exhilarating experience associated with a new sense of
freedom but they overlook the immense danger that exists when
driving. Drivers ed is a vital as in a young adult learning
the rules of the road, the dangers of the road, and the safety
precautions that need to be taken when driving. In order to reduce
the number of deaths related to driving, we as a society need to work
towards education all drivers on the importance of staying safe and
driving responsibly. While this includes not drinking and driving or
driving while under the influence of any substances that would alter
one’s ability to think quickly and make good decisions, it also
includes watching out for pedestrians and other cars and making sure
that you are always being a courteous driver. I am proud to say that
I have never been in a car accident, while I was driving or while I
was riding in the car with another driver. I have seen friends drive
irresponsibly either distracted by the radio or by their phone or
even by other people in the car. In these situations I always try my
best to stay calm and just remind the driver to pay attention and
keep their focus on the road in front of them and the cars around
them. Whenever I find myself in a situation like this I am reminded
why it is so important to be a safe, smart, and dependable driver.
The main way that we can help make the roads safer for all people is
to make sure that everyone is well educated on the matter. There are
a lot of people, especially young drivers, that don’t worry about
getting into an accident or crashing because they don’t think it’ll
happen to them but driving isn’t just about how safe of a driver
you are, you also have to keep in mind that other drivers may not be
practicing responsible driving. It is irresponsible on any drivers
part to expect that other drivers will act in a certain way. All
drivers must be careful and pay attention to make sure that they
don’t just assume another driver will drive safe and then end up in
a wreck. The first step to a society with less deaths due to driving
is the proper education of all drivers, after that the focus can move
toward eliminating driving distractions such as texting while driving
or having a stricter enforcement of driving under the influence.
