Educating Teens on Driving

Being a teen driver, I’ve been told the many precautions I should take while on the road. People everyday are being killed in car accidents because there are people not paying attention and being precarious while driving. However, if people know more and are more educated on the subject, it might influence people to be safer when it comes to driving. According to Edgar Snyder and Associates, an average of 8 9 teens ages 16-19 are killed every day from car accidents, talking on a cell phone can double the likelihood of an accident and can slow a young driver's reaction time to that of a 70-year-old, about 1/4 of fatal teen car accidents involve underage drinking and driving, and about 8.2% of high school students reported driving a car or other vehicle one or more times when they had been drinking alcohol. I think that if teens are more educated in school and taught the statistics of how people can be killed due to being distracted while driving, it could prevent more teens from getting killed in car wrecks. I have seen a friend of mine distracted by her phone while she was on her phone and it caused us to almost get into an accident. Thinking about what could have happened that night is really scary and makes me extra cautious on the roads because even though I might be driving responsibly, other drivers around me might not be acting responsibly. To be a better driver, I think I can be more aware of my surroundings and watch out for not only myself on the road but what other cars are doing as well to try to prevent being in an accident even if it’s not my fault.
