There is approximately 44 billion dollars spent on accidents resulting from distracted driving. Driving safely is the key to reducing car accidents and the deaths of our family and friends as well as saving thousands of dollars. Driving irresponsibly does not just consist of drinking while driving. Following the rules of the road are crucial because you do not want to be the cause of a family losing someone they love. Both of these topics are very important to me because I would like to help raise awareness of the dangers of driving irresponsibly.

Driving irresponsibly has become a major concern in recent times and following the rules of the road are crucial in protecting yourself as well as others while driving. I have always tried to drive as safely as possible because my parents have always stressed the importance of not texting and driving or doing anything to distract me. Approximately 1 in every 4 car crashes are caused by texting and driving which means texting and driving causes about 1.6 million car crashes a year. If you are driving and you get a text, call, or notification most people will look at it and respond which is not a good decision, the first second you take your eyes off the road to reply could possibly be the last second of someone's life, because you chose that a text was worth yours or someone else's life. We can all work together to reduce the amount of deaths and car accidents by not acknowledging the text. The text can wait.

Unfortunately I have been involved in a few car accidents, none of those were the result of my mom or I driving irresponsibly. The first wreck I was ever involved in was a man driving drunk, he pulled out in front of my mom and me and we hit the drivers side causing the man's car to spiral and go into the ditch. No one was seriously hurt in this car accident but by mothers back was hurting and so was my neck and the whole thing could have been avoided if he had taken precaution. Another wreck I was involved in was the cause of someone texting and driving. My sister and I were sitting at a red light and my sister noticed that the person coming in behind us was not slowing down, as she watched the mirror she saw the man looking down at his phone, he hit us from behind and fortunately there was no serious injury.

All in all, we need to end distracted driving because there are way too many people that are dying due to distracted driving. There are many forms of distracted driving and every single one is dangerous. I have been hurt due to someone driving negligently, I hope everyone notices how dangerous distracted driving can be and start bringing it to your family and friends attention to end it.
