Expect the Unexpected

My
first car accident was life changing! I never thought it would happen
to me but at that moment, when the truck hit our car, I was so scared
that my mind was completely blank. It happened so fast that I was
paralyzed with fear that I didn’t say a word for the next hour. For
the whole day my legs kept shaking and I couldn’t stop it. When the
cops came, we explained to them what happened and how the truck ran
into us. After that, they gave the truck driver a ticket and let us
go. Even Though we were all fine and no one was injured, it was one
of the worst days of my life.

Driving
is not something to be taken lightly. During my time driving, I have
learned that you must always expect the unexpected to be safe.
Drivers ed is a privilege because it teaches students how to
be mindful of other cars on the road. It teaches students the rules
of the road and the ways to drive safely. Before I took the class, my
idea of driving was: “it is easy, all you have to do is put your
foot on the gas and use the steering wheel to turn.” That was not
it! After taking the drivers ed class I realized that there
is a lot more involved in driving than steering and putting your foot
on the gas. I am glad I took the class because it made me the best
driver I can be.

I
believe the first step to be taken to reduce the number of deaths
related to driving is being educated on the road. Know what the road
is trying to tell you by reading the signs. Pay attention to when the
road changes and pay attention to the people around you. Basically,
by using the skills you learn in drivers ed you can greatly reduce
the number of accidents that happen on the road, and therefore
reducing the number of deaths on the road.

I
believe to be a safe driver you need to get used to driving and earn
more driving experience. By going out to less busy areas and driving
around or going to the grocery store nearby to get something, you can
greatly improve your driving skills. It takes years of practice to be
a good driver and the only advice I have is to just do it. The more
you drive the better you get and remember to always “expect the
unexpected.”
