Fix
the Cars, and Help the Man

Ever since the creation of the
motor vehicle back in the early 1900’s, driver’s safety has been
transforming and revolutionizing. There are two sides to driver’s
safety, the car and the person. It is impossible to create a 100%
safe driving experience, but we can prepare the drivers, and build
the cars to be smarter and safer.

It
is crucial to prepare the drivers in the classroom before they take
to the road. The process of receiving a permit and a licenses should
include the operation of the vehicle, but should also include a more
rigorous course involving driver safety. They need to be taught the
effects of alcohol and drugs when driving, how to avoid distractions,
and how to prepare for other drivers they will face on the road. If
people can grasp these subjects and put them into use, the number of
deaths on the road will most likely decrease.

One
of the major steps of creating a safer highway is driver’s
education, but the safety of the vehicle is vital. It’s human
nature to be distracted and make mistakes, so the safety of the cars
should drastically increase. People will get in accidents, so we can
only prepare for the inevitable. Cars should include new safety
features for the drivers and passengers. Car manufactures have had
new features such as improved sensors, but that’s only one small
step in the right direction.

I
have never been in an accident, but I have had a few close calls. I
remember how intimidated I was to get behind the wheel for the first
time, and having a close call with a drunk driver did not help that.
This experience has motivated me to not drive while intoxicated, or
get intoxicated for that matter. Some of my friends are not the best
drivers. I hate to be that annoying back seat driver, but sometimes
my friends need that extra motivation of someone giving them advice.

I
am by no means a perfect driver, but I do my best to take
precautionary steps to keep my passengers and myself safe. I always
turn on my music before I start driving, so I don’t have to look
down at my phone to find a great song. If I do look at my phone I
look at it when I am safely stopped, or I will ask a passenger to
look at it for me. I constantly check my mirrors to make sure there
are no reckless drivers around me, and if I see one I slow down and
let them pass to avoid any extra activities. If I ever see an angry
driver I try my best to just ignore them in order to keep both of us
safe.

The
road is a dangerous place, so we can take as many precautionary steps
as possible to create a safer driving experience for everyone.
