Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamt of driving, but once I stepped in the vehicle, I was petrified of what was about to happen as I started my path in driver's education. It wasn’t that the driver's ed was scary but the other drivers on the road having so little knowledge on the topic terrified me. As we progress through our time in driver's ed we may think that the information we learn is pointless or unnecessary but when we pay attention to the tiny details of driver’s ed we become the best drivers that we are trained to be. Although annoying, the head checks help prevent us from so many possible wrecks and other issues. As we maintain the information taught to us we can be more cautious and aware of the world that is going on around us. It provides us with the training wheels that help us maintain the balance we need to be a successful driver.

One of the most important steps we must take is minimizing distractions. In the car, with my friends, I often notice how distracted they get by their phones, other passengers, and other people on the road. These distractions cause the driver to be less aware of the way that they are driving. To solve this problem make sure that you are taking the right steps to minimize these distractions. If you aren’t ready for your friends to be in your car because you know they will stress you out, then don’t take them in your car. If you are tempted to get on your phone when driving then put it in a place where you won’t be able to look at it as you maintain your eyes on the road. Along with solutions for the driver we also need solutions for the passengers. When in a car everyone is responsible, not just the driver. If you know the driver is being unsafe alert them so that they are aware of their reckless habits. Your life is also at stake when you are driving with a wreckless driver.

Since a young age, a lot of my family has driven distracted. My mom would occasionally text and drive. I would offer to text for her so that she could focus on the road but she always declined. She uses voice to text, thinking it is better when in reality looking at a screen still causes distractions. Along with this my brother still relatively new to driving would get on his phone multiple times to change the song. When I would get on his case about it he would get upset stating that he is a safe driver and this isn’t the case, but I never have felt safe when he is on the wheel. Along with this I too have been distracted while behind the wheel. Growing up with people who access their phones while driving has truly impacted me. I have had a few instances where I pull out my phone at a red light because I know that the light takes forever to turn green. In times when I have done this I have a weird feeling in my heart knowing that I need to be more conscious of what I am doing behind the wheel. Despite being at a red light, I need to know that anything can happen at any moment and that I need to be 100% attentive while behind the wheel. Although I am not perfect at this yet I know that as I take the steps to get better than I will.

When it comes to being a safer driver, I believe we need to access a deeper state of maturity. Being able to minimize distractions and become a safe driver requires someone to know that they are doing something wrong. Along with this people have to realize and grow a deeper understanding of their consequences both on themselves and others. By unlocking a deeper maturity for driving you become more responsible and more trustworthy. When it comes to lives being lost in driving, we need to grow up and be a big kid. Not everyone gets a second chance at life so make sure that you are taking the proper precautions to live your safely. We are all taught how to drive safely, you just have to acknowledge it and grow with it or else someone you know might end up suffering due to your childish actions. Learn the proper way, and grow up! Not acknowledging your driving immaturity may be the cause that someone dies. This is an unsettling truth but it is true, be a big kid now or else your whole life could change within just one tiny distraction.
