How
and Can Drivers Ed Course Impact the Number of Deaths Caused by
Accidents

The
purpose of drivers ed is to provide people with the
knowledge, skills, and attitudes needed for vehicle safety both as a
driver and as a pedestrian. Drivers ed can help drivers
maneuver his or her way out of an accident by learning the skills
that are essential to the safe operation of a car. According to my
research, nearly 1.25 million people die from being in a car accident
every year. On average, that’s 3,287 deaths a day. An additional
20-50 million are injured or disabled. Every single one of those
lives were important. Though without the proper education of how to
drive correctly on the road, that concludes lives to take place in a
tragic accident. This why drivers ed is important to have
or get, because having the knowledge and skills of driving safely can
reduce the number of deaths caused by car accidents every year.

Making
a drivers ed course an official course in high schools as
an additional course to the schools’ courses can be a step taken to
reduce the number of deaths related to driving. Having driver’s
education more accessible to teens can reduce the number of deaths
caused by accidents, young adults mainly gets into accidents more
than adults who are older than 44 years old. Researchers at the
University of Nebraska at Lincoln, the drivers who had taken a
drivers ed course, had been involved in a crash. Teens who are
eager to get on the road, usually convince their parents to teach
them everything they know about driving. Normally, those parents
haven’t taken a drivers ed course themselves before trying to
teach the kids how to drive.

There
are more personal steps that can be taken are making sure you obey
traffic laws and stay up to date on your new state traffic laws. Be
predictable and aware of your surroundings. Avoid distractions, like
texting or talking on the phone. Make sure you are well rested before
driving. Most importantly, steer clear of drugs and alcohol.

Much
to my dismay, my mother used to be a reckless driver. She would use
her phone anytime she would drive. She hasn't drove like how she used
to, when she was first taught how to drive. She told me it’s
because she’s been driving for a long time, so she just happened to
form unsafe habits. Some of my friends drives irresponsibly. My other
friends who have taken a drivers ed course, drive more
responsibly.

I
recommend parents and their kids to take a drivers ed class or
course to get a better knowledge of driving safe. I’ve taken a
drivers ed course so to continue to be safe I will use all the
knowledge and continue to practice them.
