As a senior in high school, who has just gotten the permit and is learning to drive, it’s terrifying. I don’t wanna mess up. The cost could be my life. So, it was important for me to have a list of things that can help me on “How Not to Get in An Accident”.
Drivers education is no nonsense it’s the basics and commonsense of the world you will be getting into as a new driver. So never- ever skip that step as newbie. Keep the information provided in your mind.
Now, I was very young but once my mom had come home and found dad super drunk, she got mad and kicked my dad out and he decided to get behind the wheels, not sure why? Probably because he was drunk and out of his mind. Yes, he crashed his car, yes, the tickets and driver’s license being canceled shbang took place.
So, I had to go ask dad now that he has learned his lesson, “What can I do that will help me not get in an accident?”
And here’s what I’ve learned folks. To prevent highway hypnosis and bring awareness to the cars around you, randomly glance at your mirrors. And here is an acronym: SADD. You’re ‘sadd’ if you don’t follow the full form of ‘sadd’ and that makes you a bad driver. Now, SADD means Speed, Attention, Distance, Distraction. Keep these things in your mind. Are you distracted? Exactly how distracted are you? Look at your surroundings, be aware of your speed and distance. Sometimes we are so used to driving. For example, coming back from work to home. You have it memorized to the point you don’t even realize, and you are already home. But even on your everyday route’s accidents can happen, so, please pay attention. And feel free to add another D for ‘dumb drivers’ that you have to avoid. But please don’t be the ‘dumb driver’ just pay attention and don’t drive fast.
Another trick is to keep a good distance between you and other cars. It helps keep you safe and gives more control being the ‘lone wolf’ on the road. And you really didn’t think I would talk about “How to not get in an accident” without mentioning the basics?
Please don’t text while driving. Don’t be drunk. Don’t eat hamburger with one hand and drive with other. Don’t have earbuds in your ears.
