How
to Keep Roads Safer
By:
Mia Sims

Keeping
the road safe is important and we all should be taking action to lead
to a safe road. Reckless driving can be dangerous to everyone, the
person driving and everyone around them because they can easily get
in a car accident so everyone including myself should take action to
keep the road as safe as possible. Drivers ed is a way that we
can teach everyone about the road and how to drive responsibly so it
is important that everyone goes through it. Those who have not taken
the class are more likely to get in a wreck and could potentially die
from that wreck because they do not know the responsible way to
drive. There are things that responsible drivers should do to keep
the road safe and to reduce the number of deaths related to driving.
One is being completely focused when driving; just one second of a
distraction that takes your eyes off the road and you could be in an
accident that could take your life away. Texting and driving is a big
thing that distracts many people today and it needs to be stopped If
you look away while you're driving for as little as 5 minutes you
could go a long way without looking at the road and that is scary for
you and for those around you. The next big thing that needs to be
reduced in order to reduce driving related deaths is drinking and
driving. Drinking causes a plethora of things to occur in a person's
brain including slowing their reaction time, reducing their
coordination, decreasing vision and concentration, and increasing the
likelihood of them making bad decisions. These things are all needed
to drive, so everyone needs to keep away from doing this. Although I
have never witnessed my parents driving irresponsibly or been in an
accident, there are precautions that I can take to ensure that the
roads are safe. Something that I can do to keep the road safe is
staying within the speed limit. Speeding can cause you to need a
longer time to break so if the car in front of you suddenly stops you
are definitely going to crash. Also if you are speeding on a curve or
a hill you can cause your car to flip or go off into the grass and
you will end up in a car wreck. Also if you speed on ice it can cause
your car to lose friction and cause you to lose control of the car
and start spinning. The roads need to be safe for everyone not just
those that are driving but also pedestrians so it is important that
we look out for them as we are driving because I would want them to
do the same for me. Looking for pedestrians is something that people
tend to not do when there is a lot of traffic because we are making
sure to watch for just other cars so we need to make sure to always
look for pedestrians no matter the conditions of the road or anything
else. These are some actions that I will take to make sure that the
roads are safe and I encourage others to take the same precautions
and also to spread the word because it is important to keep the road
safe for everyone because we are all just trying to get to wherever
we are going so we should just be safe drivers.
