2025 Driver Education Round 1
Importance of being a safe drive

Driver education is essential because it lays the foundation for safe driving practices. The course taught me the road signs what the different lines on the road mean and the lights. Let’s face it my generation does not always pay attention as a passenger so the course was definitely needed. I learned all the rules of the road and how to handle a car and respond to emergencies. I liked that is taught me real-life scenarios. I am glad my parents also sent me to driving school to help refresh what I learned in class. I could really see the importance of not driving while distracted and tell my mom to put her phone down. She is getting better. My parents were stressed out more than me but when I took the classes, they calmed down.
I do think I am a good driver because I went through the driver’s education class at my school. I definitely became more aware of my surroundings and how people around me drive.
While driver education is a major part of reducing accidents, it’s not the only solution. Communities, governments, and individuals can all take steps to lower the number of deaths on the road. People really just need to pay more attention because as my mom would say “it’s not just about them” when we are driving.
I guess we could have stronger enforcement of traffic laws, consequences always help for me. Better road design and care, where I live it can be very confusing with all the U-turns to go left and the construction. My mom always seems to get a nail in her tire. We could also remind people about the importance of wearing your seat belt, not texting and driving, and avoiding other distractions. We could use real stories. Sadly my boyfriend lost a family member and another was injured this year in a car accident due to a distracted driver. They were less than a mile from home. Also, parents and guardians must model safe driving behavior. We often mimic what they see at home. If parents drive safely, avoid distractions, and stay calm behind the wheel, their children are more likely to do the same when they start driving.
Personal Experience and Observations
I was in an accident with my mom when I was younger. I don’t remember much but I see how my mom is still affected by it. We were hit by a car trying to make a turn and they hit us on the driver side and could have pushed us on the road below. My mom still has neck pain from it.
I am glad that we have a car that lets you know when you start to move into the next lane. My mom drives a lot and gets tired. We have had a few road trips where she would just pull over to take a nap, but now I can help with the driving. Thankfully, nothing happened, but it showed me how important sleep is even for driving. Now I know it is ok to take breaks or let someone else drive. It also reminded me how easy it is to take safety for granted until something almost goes wrong.
To become a better and safer driver, I plan to focus on staying alert, avoiding distractions, and respecting traffic laws. That means putting my phone away while driving, obeying speed limits, and never driving if I’m tired, upset, or under the influence of anything that could affect my judgment. Good thing I don’t drink or smoke so that helps.
Learning doesn’t stop once you pass the driving test—it’s an ongoing process. I can take advance classes, watch videos and pay attention to and learn from people around me.
Another important step I can take is being a positive influence on others. Whether I’m in the passenger seat or behind the wheel, I can encourage safe driving. If a friend is speeding or not paying attention, I won’t be afraid to speak up. I’ll also support friends and family who make smart decisions, like using a rideshare service when they’ve been drinking.
In the future, I hope to use my voice to raise awareness about the importance of driver safety. Whether it’s through social media, school projects, or conversations with my peers, I want to be someone who encourages responsible behavior on the road.
Driving is a responsibility that I will never take lightly. Driver education is one of the most important tools we have to reduce accidents and save lives. But education must be combined with enforcement, better roads, public awareness, and personal responsibility. By taking these steps and encouraging others to do the same we can make the roads safer for everyone. It only takes one bad decision to change a life forever, but it also only takes one good choice to prevent a tragedy.
